Established in 1942 as Camp Beale, a WWII training installation on 87,000 acres. Redesignated as Beale Air Force Base in 1948. Home to the 9th Reconnaissance Wing, it housed the SR-71 Blackbird (1966-1990) and currently operates the U-2 Dragon Lady and RQ-4 Global Hawk. The base is the largest employer in Yuba County with an economic impact exceeding $700 million annually.
